Love of Learning

F1 and F2 this week, we have been learning all about Brazil as part of our geography based enquiry. This week, the children were lucky enough to have a teaching assistant, who spent many years living in Brazil, working with us. Mrs Da Costa Gomes spoke to us all about her time travelling through the Amazon Rain Forest and her time living with her family in Rio. We even learned some words and phrases in Portugese! The grown ups were very proud of the children’s excellent listening and super questions. In F2, the children have also been learning about favelas and ocas. Some children have even tried drawing and building their own favelas! – 1.03.24

our maths lessons, we have been exploring the composition of the number 5! We have enjoyed singing the number rhyme ‘5 Little Speckled Frogs’ and moving the frogs from the log to the pond to show the different ways of making 5. The children have worked with a partner to sing the rhyme and represent a number pair to 5. Throughout continuous provision time, they have also explored ways of making 5 using resources in the maths area. Ask your child to sing you the rhyme and see if they can show you a way of making 5! - 2.02.24

We have been reading the story ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’ in school. Last week, we were so excited to receive a special letter from The Happiest Giant who asked us for some help finding his lost clothes! We wrapped up warm and went on a walk around the local precinct and found lots of items of clothing – we think the Giant will be so pleased with us! It was lovely to spot all of the fantastic features of our local area – perhaps you could go on a walk around Cotgrave and see what you can spot in the local area! 9.01.24

We had a brilliant time getting ready for Christmas in F2! We have had nativities, church visits, trips to the local care home and a delicious Christmas dinner just to name a few of the lovely things we have been up to! Have a look at the photos below to see some of the things we got up to! 22.12.23

We have been learning all about bonfire night and how the ways that we celebrate this have changed over the years. We learned that in the past, children would collect wood for a bonfire and then bake their potatoes on the fire! In school today, we tasted a baked potato with our choice of topping. We then voted on our favourite toppings! 16.11.23

We have been learning all about the past and how life was a bit different then. We have learned that people used to make their own birthday decorations and instead of having lots of lovely toys and resources like we do, they had to make their own! The children have been busy making some fantastic paper chains to decorate our classrooms, as well as following instructions on how to make a paper aeroplane! 12.10.23

The children have been taking great pride in their writing this week! We are feeling very proud of you F2! 11.10.23

We had a fantastic time at the grandparents stay and play afternoon! The children found it fascinating to hear how much school life has changed over the years and we all loved having the opportunity to listen to an old record player and look at a kettle from 100 years ago! 21.09.23

We were super excited to bring our brand new reading books home! 13.09.23

We have loved exploring our exciting indoor and outdoor environments in our first few weeks at school!
