Year 5's meeting with the experts at the Jorvik Centre
Year 5 had the fantastic experience of an online learning session with the Jorvik Centre. We learnt all about Viking longships, how Vikings travelled and the weapons that were used during raids. The Jorvik Centre have given Year 5 the challenge to design a longship capable of winter raiding over the rough sea. Keep your eyes peeled for the progress of our longships!
Wollaton Hall
Year 5 had a great time on our trip to Wollaton Hall for an Anglo-Saxon workshop. We made an Anglo-Saxon brooch, sketched and handled artefacts, wrote our names and secret messages in runes, found out about Anglo-Saxon place names in Nottinghamshire and even got to dress up! Can you work out who is hiding under the helmets?
We finished the day with a tour around Wollaton Hall!
For our first writing unit, Year 5 have been immersed in the story of Beowulf and Grendel as part of our learning about Anglo-Saxons. We’ve written list poems to describe the monster Grendel, focussing on our use of ambitious vocabulary and creating atmosphere.
