Love of Learning
Science
Light
In the autumn term, Year 6 are learning about light in science. We will investigate how light travels before we learn how the Dambusters used light during WW2 in their audacious bombing raid to destroy three dams in the Ruhr valley.
Electricity
In the autumn term, Year 6 are learning about electricity in science. We will investigate how circuits work correctly and use this knowledge to ensure that our Anderson Shelters are effective for use in DT.
History
In history, Year 6 are answering the enquiry questions "What if a voice isn't heard?" The children will be immersed in The Blitz, The Battle of Britain and the main leaders of the time. They will be looking at artefacts from that time to enhance their learning.
Art
In art, Year 6 are exploring the works of British artist Henry Moore. Focussing on perspective, proportion and the human figure. This will lead to the Year 6's creating their very own piece of art inspired by Moore's drawings of the London Underground air-raid shelters.
Religious Education
In RE, Year 6 are exploring the harmony and peace and how different religions show this to others in the world. This will embed further our British Values, especially tolerance and mutual respect. This then links into our enquiry 'What if a voice isn’t heard?’ which also focusses on the plight of the Jewish faith during World War 2. Children will learn what happens when people resist discrimination and persecution.
