Visit from Elly Griffiths - crime and mystery writer.
Year 5 had the privilege of hearing Elly talk about her debut children's novel and her inspirations for writing.
We (Elly and our staff) were bowled over by the intelligent questions and great vocabulary our children used in order to learn so much from Elly.
5DO have had another fantastic DT lesson - our moon buggies are looking amazing! There are some budding engineers and designers in our class - thinking carefully about the purpose of their creative features.
Thanks again to Mr D for joining in with all the fun!
Eggciting Egg designs
Yet again the children amazed us with their creativity in our annual egg challenge.Well done to everyone who took part.
Caroline Lawrence Visit
A group of Year 5 children had a great time at Nottingham High School, where they had a chance to meet author Caroline Lawrence. She did a wonderful talk on successful writing and then met the children after for a book signing.
With ice skating behind us, 5DO have just begun our MOON ROVER project, which we are very excited about! We have embraced our new roles as engineers and researched how the rovers work - playing with some fantastic model rovers (even a solar powered one). A huge thank you to Mr D. who is helping us with this project!
Year 5 had a great visit to the SNA.
5L found out how to use a Bunsen Burner safely.
There were lots of nervous faces to begin with but by the end of the sessions, the children were confidently using the equipment to investigate how to test for different gases.
5DO were busily baking some creatively shaped loaves, full of tasty seeds. This was followed by an energetic but educational PE session to burn off those doughy calories.
5DO have seen some amazing homework come in this week! It is great to everyone have such fun sharing their creations!!
5DO have had a fantastic 5 weeks of ice skating!! We have all grown in confidence on the ice, including Miss Doubtfire!
Thank you to all the parent helpers that supported along the way.
5L's new classroom ambassadors are Amelia Elliott and Jacob Linekar.
Year 5 have been searching the stars with their hand-made constellation viewers in science.
We have been looking at the different star configurations and how they have formed shapes and patterns in the sky, leading to many stories and myths.
The time is flying by and the children are enjoying their space topic. We have seen some amazing homework and appreciate the effort the children and yourselves are putting into it.
Look out for our second visit to SNA in the next few weeks, which we will send a text reminder for.
Well it certainly did! The year five team were so proud of the whole year group. Amazing singing, great acting, bucket loads of enthusiasm!
I still haven't slept without the songs going through my head!
End of the first half term
It has gone so quickly! Most children have taken part in cycling, the learning to ride scheme or Level 1 and 2. Opportunities will be offered again in Year 6. Well done to all. Certificates were given put last week.
A few children who passed Level 2 are going on a cycling safari this week. So remember those bikes and helmets.
It is now on to the Year 5 performance. Over half term the children will have songs and lines to practice; so no homework will be set.
Enjoy the half term
Our trip to Perlethorpe was amazing. The children have produced some incredible writing about their experiences.
Please enjoy these photographs of the classroom experience.
Year 5 had an exciting day at Perlethorpe today. The pupils looked the part in their Victorian costumes. We will add some photos soon.
But yesterday our Year 5 were the first pupils to use new climbing apparatus and trim trail. Their faces showed their immense pleasure.
