Welcome Back Letter
Hello year 1 grown-ups!
We hope you’ve had a lovely Easter break and are ready for some more home learning. Here, we have put together a time-table with ideas for learning. Please only see this as a GUIDE – please do not feel pressured into completing this work with your children; we understand this is a completely unprecedented time and each and every family are dealing with things in their own way, our staff included. Our main concern is that you and your families are happy, healthy and safe – any home learning is a bonus. You are welcome to pick and choose any activities that you may wish to complete. Do not feel compelled to report your child’s work back to us, but we would LOVE to see what you’ve been up to – should you wish to share that with us.
Our expectations as a Trust have changed, with aim to try and increase consistency between year groups and schools, hence the change in home learning format. In addition, through discussion within the Year 1 team, we have tried to incorporate ideas that do not require as much technology, but will still be using PurpleMash activities as consolidation to our other tasks as we know a number of children have enjoyed these.
In a typical school day, we have an English lesson, a maths lesson, a phonics session, a guided reading session and a topic lesson which may include geography, history, art, DT or R.E. On a weekly basis, we have a science lesson, a P.E lesson and a music lesson – we understand that children won’t necessarily be getting as much physical activity so have included the Joe Wicks workouts as an idea, too. We have tried to cover all of these bases throughout the week in meaningful, fun and engaging activities. Please see below the themes for this week.
Week 3 theme –
English – In and around my community.
Maths – Shape, shape, shape!
Topic – All about animals.
Science – Where and how do insects live?!
Art – Can I create a picture with natural resources?
As always, if you have any questions, queries or need to contact us in any way, do not forget that we are always at the end of an email and will endeavour to get back to you within 24 hours. Just to reiterate – these home learning activities are NOT compulsory, just a possible way of keeping a routine and consolidating the learning your children have completed at school.
We wish you all the best in your health and happiness,
The Year 1 team xx
