Questioning when reading
When we read with our children the types of questions we ask are really important and will give us a clear idea of how much the children actually understood from the extract. As time goes on, our children become fantastic at segmenting and blending words which is great however in order to take their reading to the next level we should now try to test their comprehension skills (are they understanding what they have read?). In the PowerPoint below are the key style of questions (with examples) to apply when you are reading with your child to help promote their comprehensive understanding.
