By phase 6 children will know most of the common GPC's and should be able to read a variety of words doing this in three ways
- reading the words automatically if they are familiar
- decoding them quickly and silently because their sounding and blending routine is now well established
- decoding them aloud
During this phase there will be lots of opportunities for children to recap and reinforce much of what has been taught in previous phases. Children will become fluent and confident readers and increasingly accurate spellers, working on spellings that include prefixes, suffixes, doubling and dropping letters.
