This week F2 have thoroughly enjoyed becoming immersed in our new book: Somebody Swallowed Stanley. Throughout the week, the children have been busy exploring our sea themed small world areas and completing sea themed writing tasks in the provision. We have enjoyed talking all about pollution and how we can look after our oceans. We can't wait to see your final pieces of writing from this unit F2!

We have been learning about the artist Claude Monet and his Impressionist style. We explored how he used colour and light to capture scenes from nature. We enjoyed recreating one of Monet’s artworks using a range of techniques, creating our own beautiful Impressionist pieces.

We have had a busy few weeks immersing ourselves in our art. We really enjoyed learning all about primary and secondary colours. We also had fun drawing Pete the Badger from our story Tidy, and explored using both thin and thick paintbrushes while creating an observational painting of a daffodil.

We had a fantastic time launching our summer enquiry 'Where can we see art in our lives?' on Tuesday, adults and children enjoyed the opportunity to get involved in a range of creative activities including painting, drawing and collaging. It was lovely to see so many of the grown-ups enjoying getting stuck in and we were very impressed with everyone's efforts! A massive thank you to all parents and carers for your support!

On Tuesday morning we went on an exciting plane journey! The children took their boarding passes into the hall and boarded Candleby Airways for our journey to Brazil. They listened to the safety briefing and enjoyed their morning snack on the plane whilst making the most of the in-flight entertainment! Luckily we landed back at Candleby in time for lunch.
Keeping with the Brazil theme, we have been talking about the Amazon Rainforest and the interesting animals that live there. Our new book 'Roaming in the Rainforest' introduced us to jaguars, monkeys, parrots and many more. In our writing lesson we enjoyed finding out facts about each of the animals and practising reading them to our friends. What a busy first week back at school we have had!

We have been learning all about Children’s Mental Health Week and why looking after our wellbeing is so important. The children took part in a lovely discussion about belonging, thinking about the groups, clubs, and communities they are part of, and how these help them feel connected and supported. In the provision, the children had a go at writing and drawing the clubs and communities they are a part of.

As you may have seen on Tapestry, we have been exploring the composition of the number 5 in our maths lessons recently. The children loved singing Five Little Speckled Frogs and using small frog resources to show how 5 can be split into different parts. We were so proud to see the children joining in with the song and explaining the different combinations that make 5. You could support this learning at home by counting out five everyday objects or toys and talking about how they can be shared into two groups in different ways.
Also, this week in Reception, we’ve been enjoying the story Supertato by Sue Hendra! The children have loved exploring the characters, joining in with the story and talking about the good and not so good choices the characters make. We will be continuing our work on this book over the next few weeks so listen out for your child telling you more about their super learning. You might like to share Supertato at home too if you have a copy. You could try reading the story together, talking about the characters, or even acting it out!

We had an exciting letter from the smartest giant’s friend. The giant asked for our help in finding some clothes that he had dropped. The children enjoyed walking around the precinct and finding the items. We also talked about the local area and what our favourite place in Cotgrave is.

We have had a fun filled couple of weeks, including a visit to the church, a lovely trip to the care home, enjoyed our Christmas dinner together, and finishing with a wonderful Nativity performance where the children did an amazing job. We are incredibly proud of all the children in F2 this term and are looking forward to the New Year!

F2 had a fantastic time at the grandparents stay and play afternoon! It was lovely to see so many grown ups come along to see our wonderful environment and share their own memories and photos from the past! The children found it fascinating to hear how much school life has changed over the years. Thank you so much to everybody who came and shared their memories with us, we really do appreciate your support.

This week, the children have been learning about how people in the past used to make their own party decorations. We explored how celebrations looked before shop bought items were common, and the children enjoyed getting creative by making their own decorations, just like in the old days!

We are so pleased with how well the children have settled into their new classrooms. They have shown such confidence and enthusiasm in getting to know our school routines, exploring the classroom environment and making new friends. It has also been wonderful to see them taking part in phonics sessions with lots of excitement! We are really looking forward to all the learning and fun ahead of us this year. Don't forget to keep on checking Tapestry for updates and photos of the children! Please speak to your child's teacher if you are having any difficulties with using Tapestry.
